My department chair came over to my building today JUST to tell me that he saw our district's seniority list, that my name was on it, and I NOW HAVE TENURE!!!!
Now - I'm not counting my chickens yet, since I haven't gotten the paperwork from the district office...but still..YAY!!!
For anyone who doesn't know my situation: This is my 4th year teaching enrichment (like gifted education). However, I was hired under 1 year contracts because "gifted ed" is not a tenured position (basically because NY doesn't require schools to offer gifted ed, they couldn't guarantee to "hold a space for me"). Anyways - we've been fighting it for the last couple of years, and it appears we FINALLY got somewhere!! I'll be tenured as a regular ed. teacher - so even if the gifted ed. position gets cut, I should still have a classroom teacher position.
This is SUCH a relief - since I was very worried about sharing the news of my pregnancy in the fear that they would decide not to hire me back next year since I'll be taking a couple months off. I NEED this job, and the awesome health insurance. *Breathes a sigh of relief while beginning to work on report cards...ugh*
