I had my GD introductory class this morning where they went over counting carbs and testing your blood and I must say it wasn't as bad as I thought.
I'm not really afraid of needles - but certainly wasn't looking forward to having to prick myself 4 times a day....but when we tried it out at the class - it really wasn't that bad! Also - our instructor told us that we SHOULD have 1 cup of regular ice cream for our night time snack. HOORAY!! I thought ice cream was OUT. Granted, it's still not a nice big hot fudge sundae, but...it will make this a LOT easier.
Only downside was that when she took my blood pressure it was 124/90...which concerned her (Though it's been between 124/74 and 124/84 most of my doctor's appointments and they've never said a word about it...)
I've decided that testing will be much easier after school is out. Since I have to test exactly an hour after I eat - it's kinda tricky if that means I have kids in the classroom. I did my first solo test today while a couple of kids were giving presentations!
Then I had my first "how will I handle this situation" after work as we went out for our last department meeting. I ordered quesadillas (which I have been told are GOOD for GD diet) - but then they had cake for me (for the baby) and for another co-worker (he's retiring). Since the cake was for me, I Couldn't really say no - so I had a small piece thinking "Great..first day testing and I'm TOTALLY going to screw up my numbers" ...but when I tested they were great! YAY!
Oh, and for those of you who were so addicted to POAS...I get to do that every morning now to test my keytones......
